Alpha Micro recommends Teridian Semiconductor's 78M6612 power outlet measurement and monitoring chip to address energy efficiency in applications such as white goods, servers, power distribution and communications equipment.
Managing director, Alpha Micro Components, Christos Papakyriacou, said: “Energy costs are set to rise by as much as 60 per cent by 2016, so consumers increasingly demand products that help them keep a grip on their utility bills.”
Designed to help end users understand the AC power they are consuming, the Teridian 78M6612 offers accuracy of ±0.5 per cent, over a 2000:1 dynamic range, with self-calibration and an operating range of -40 to 85°C.
Christos concluded: “Intelligent energy consumption begins with accurate and meaningful measurement. Prior to the arrival of this chip, developers were forced to perform complex mathematical calculations to track and analyse power usage. Now they simply add this chip to their system.”
